Taylor Featherston traded to Tampa Bay

After a litany of tests - MRI, CT scan, x-rays, etc. - Kiermaier's doctors discovered a hairline fracture in his right hip.

"You always see bad things happen when people slide into first base".

The two-time Gold Glove victor has uncharacteristically struggled on defense this season, having accumulated six errors. He's stolen 10 bases so far this season and is ranked eighth in the American League with a 2.4 WAR. He left the game on crutches.

The 27-year-old Featherston was not on the Phillies' 40-man roster, though it seems that the Rays may immediately be bringing him to the Majors, as Tampa Bay also moved Matt Duffy to the 60-day disabled list, thus opening a 40-man roster spot.

This is obviously a big blow to the Rays.

Kiermaier signed a six-year, $53 million contract extension in the offseason. Youngster Mallex Smith will get a chance in center with Kiermaier down. However, the Rays will only be sending cash considerations back to Philadelphia in return for Featherston's services.

Appearing in 101 regular-season games as a rookie for the Angels, Featherston batted.162 with two home runs and nine RBIs alongside a.212 on-base percentage over the course of 154 at-bats.

The Rays enter Friday 31-31, which is in contention in the AL East and certainly in the wild-card mix.
