James surpasses Jordan as playoffs scoring leader

The Boston Celtics host the Cleveland in Game 5 of the NBA Eastern Conference finals Thursday night at TD Bank Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. A year ago he carried his team back from the brink as the Cavs became the first team to rally from a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven NBA Finals and win the title.

The win also sets the stage for an unprecedented NBA Finals rubber match between the Cavs and Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James is grateful that he and the Cleveland Cavaliers will be playing the Warriors in the NBA Finals for the third straight year. His three made it 103-71.

With five more points, James would become the first player in National Basketball Association history to score 6,000 points in the playoffs.

Durant's decision to leave the Thunder for Golden State as a free agent last summer meant the Warriors went from mere overwhelming favorites to win the West again to super-duper-overwhelming favorites to win the West again. Game 3 and we nearly had Game 4, I was at home cheering and getting even more hyped, jumping up. I'm not a scorer. Now he's four wins away from winning his first National Basketball Association championship. "So I didn't think I could be Mike".

"The group of guys I'm working with are tremendous".

James finished with 35 points, eight assists and eight boards. Cleveland is expecting another unflinching effort in Game 5 from a Celtics team that isn't backing down despite facing a 3-1 deficit in the series.

Despite little resistance from the Celtics, Cleveland can relish its Eastern Conference dominance. "I was like, 'If I'm not scoring the ball, how can I still make an impact on the game?' It's carried me all the way to this point now, and it's going to carry me for the rest of my career because scoring is not No. 1 on my agenda". That jibed with comments James made in December, when he said of Jordan, "He was much more of a scorer", adding, "You recognize the dominance that someone had but there are no similarities in our game, at all". It's one more team that you probably would've thought would've been a contender. Andre Iguodala, who came of the bench, won the Finals MVP award in that series.

It was hardly the Celtics' best shot.

He did it with a three-pointer late in the third quarter - the first of a string of three straight from beyond the arc. Avery Bradley led Boston with 23 points, but there were too many shots left short and too many blown defensive assignments.

This leaves a certain taste in our mouth, getting here and not getting to the championship.

Cleveland certainly deserved the Cavs' title and the Indians' World Series appearance for so many years of failure from its teams. "Credit to those guys".

The 28-year-old Thomas reaffirmed that he can see himself in Boston deep into the future but knows the Celtics have hard decisions looming with both Thomas and guard Avery Bradley set to reach unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2018. The Cavs led 75-57 at the half. He did add 9 assists and 11 boards but was outplayed by fellow rookie Carmelo Anthony, who doubled the King's point total with 14. The 43 points Cleveland scored in the first quarter set a team postseason record for a quarter. James follows next at 2-1, Green at 17-2, Irving at 10-1, Love at 15-1 and Thompson at 25-1.

James also recalled his battles with the Boston Celtics when they boasted Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen.
