10 inmates escape from Minnesota prison; 1 still on the lam

Minneapolis police advised residents in the neighborhood near where the van was recovered to remain indoors and call 911 if they spot any suspicious activity in the area.

Ten inmates escaped from a prison in Lino Lakes when an inmate jumped a fence, hijacked a transport van full of other prisoners and drove off. According to the Minneapolis Police, those three inmates were still handcuffed and sitting inside the stolen van. Lino Lakes is also a site of the Minnesota Sex Offender Treatment Program, which can house 270 offenders.

About a half an hour later, police apprehended three more escaped inmates in north Minneapolis - Mitchell Dale Saltzman, Paul Jerome Thunder and Kevin Ladell Mitchell.

One man, James Douglas Mitchell, 26, remains at large.

The sheriff's office said that four inmates were still at large, though the Department of Corrections said five were at large.
